Este documento presenta el Informe del Grupo de Braquiterapia de la Sociedad Española de Física Médica relativo a los aspectos de Protección Radiológica involucrados en Braquiterapia. Este trabajo intenta recoger los principales aspectos de protección radiológica asociados a la práctica clínica, teniendo en cuenta el equipamiento actual en España.
Fundamentalmente, este informe se centra en los contenidos típicos asociados a tratamientos con Alta Tasa de Dosis, mediante Ir-192 y Co-60, e implantes permanentes con semillas I-125, Pd-103 y Cs-131, que son las modalidades más actuales y extendidas. También se incluye la Braquiterapia oftálmica (COMS con I-125, Ru-106, Sr-90) dada su disponibilidad en un notable número de hospitales españoles.
La intención de este informe es el servir de ayuda a los radiofísicos en el establecimiento del programa de Protección radiológica en la técnica de Braquiterapia, intentando resolver algunas ambigüedades en la aplicación de la legislación así como incluyendo recomendaciones a aplicar en la práctica.
